Welcome to the Shireoaks Striders, We are are a friendly walking group based in North Nottinghamshire and membership is open to all. In addition to our social walks, we also incorporate Walking for Health walks. Please explore our site for more information If you are lucky enough to live here in Bassetlaw, or if you are visiting North Nottinghamshire and would like to explore the area, there is no better way of doing this than by walking.
Within a short distance of the town centre, you can find yourself in the magnificent Clumber Park or in the deep limestone gorge that is part of Anston Stones Woods, or even the caves at Creswell Crags.
You could even rediscover the disused quarries that provided the limestone to build the Houses of Parliament and there is also the Chesterfield Canal path to explore for miles in either direction. There are of course, miles and miles of beautiful countryside, ancient villages, hamlets, paths, tracks and bridleways to explore.
Just outside of Worksop, at the Shire Oak, you can stand with one foot in Nottinghamshire, the other in Derbyshire and reach forward with a hand or stick into Yorkshire.
You don't have to join a club or group to walk here, or anywhere for that matter, but if you want to walk for free, with a friendly (and often knowledgable) group of people who walk for fun, friendship and health, then please explore our site.
